ABC also stated that Ms Mary had thrown a birthday celebration on May 1, 2021, and that Ms Cherono had spent four days there instead of the one night she was permitted to go out.
A few days later, Ms Mary had requested that ABC accompany her to meet Ms Cherono at a joint on the shores of the Indian Ocean. There, they met with Ms Cherono and another person. After a brief discussion, Ms Cherono and Mr Rashid left the area on a motorcycle before coming back several hours later. ABC claimed that she overheard Mr Rashid boasting to Ms Mary about how easy the task at hand was and how he would complete it.
On June 2, Ms Mary picked up a key from Ms Cherono’s residence, according to ABC, before going back to their residence. The following day at 5 pm, Ms Mary left their home, claiming to visit her boyfriend in Kilifi. She gave ABC money to prepare supper for her two children. Ms Mary returned to their house at 4 am and told ABC that they had murdered Cherono’s husband and that Mr Rashid had completed the task. ABC claims that Ms Mary paid her Sh9,000 to settle a debt she owed her before giving her an additional Sh5,000 to take care of her children. Mr Rashid also gave her Sh2,000.
ABC claims that, while she was at home, Ms Mary called her using a strange number to let her know that she had been arrested. She gave ABC instructions to throw away her phone and the line and to lie if she was ever arrested about the incident. She forewarned her that she and Mr Rashid would arrange for her murder even if they were in custody if she dared to come clean to the police.
