A series of fire incidents in Nairobi have resulted in loss of property and lives. The most recent incident occurred in Mathare slums, where a seven-year-old girl named Patience Mwende Kioko was killed in her sleep. The fire started around 10 pm on Monday in the Bondeni area, and despite the efforts of a fire engine, the blaze had already taken the child’s life.

In another incident in Kibera slums on Sunday, a one-month-old baby girl lost her life in a house fire. Preliminary investigations have shown that a candle left burning in the house was the cause of the fire. Sadly, similar incidents have been occurring in Nairobi in recent weeks, leading to the destruction of properties.

In the Uhuru estate, another fire destroyed property of unknown value, believed to have been caused by a leaking cooking gas cylinder. Investigations are still ongoing in all of these incidents. In the Mowlem area, an apartment and several stalls were burnt to ashes, causing loss of household goods and small businesses.

Lastly, in Dandora, around ten families lost their homes and property in another fire incident. Though no injuries were reported, many were left homeless. The police are investigating all these incidents, and they have issued a warning for everyone to take fire safety precautions seriously to avoid future loss of lives and property.
