Nairobi Sniper Case: Suspect Arrested in Connection to Shooting of NHIF Employee Lilian Waithera

Nairobi police have arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting of 46-year-old Lilian Waithera on Kaunda Street last week. Waithera, an employee of the National Health Insurance Fund, had collapsed and died on the street, and it was only during the post-mortem examination that it was discovered she had been shot.

The police confirmed that the bullet had entered her body from an elevated angle, suggesting that the shooter had been located in one of the buildings near the scene.

The suspect, a 38-year-old man, was apprehended in Murang’a and was found to have been present at the scene of the crime on the day of the shooting. Police sources revealed that he had been carrying a rifle but denies having fired it, claiming he placed it in his car before leaving. Investigations are ongoing.

The tragic incident has shocked the nation, and colleagues of Waithera have expressed their grief and sadness at her untimely death. Described as the “go-to person” at NHIF due to her extensive knowledge of the agency’s operations, Waithera had worked there for 15 years.

She was walking with a colleague, Damaris Achieng, when she complained of chest pain and collapsed on the pavement outside an Optical outlet. Despite an ambulance arriving within half an hour, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The arrest of the suspect offers hope that justice will be served for Waithera and her loved ones. The police’s investigation will continue to uncover more details about the shooting and the circumstances that led to it. Meanwhile, the nation mourns the loss of a dedicated and hardworking individual whose life was taken too soon.
