Sabina Chege, a Kenyan politician and Member of Parliament for Murang’a County, was recently shortchanged in the political arena.

Chege, who had been serving as the Chairperson of the National Assembly’s Committee on Health, was removed from the position in a reshuffle that saw several other committee chairs replaced.
Many of Chege’s supporters and colleagues in the National Assembly were outraged by her removal, claiming that she had been doing an excellent job in the position and that her removal was politically motivated.

Chege herself expressed disappointment at the decision, saying that she had not been given any explanation for her removal and that she felt it was unjust.

One of the reasons cited for Chege’s removal was her support for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), a controversial political initiative aimed at reforming Kenya’s government structure. Chege, who had been a vocal supporter of the BBI, was seen by some as too closely aligned with the initiative and therefore a liability to the National Assembly.

However, many of Chege’s supporters argue that her removal was not based on her performance or political views, but rather on gender bias. Chege is one of the few female committee chairs in the National Assembly, and her removal has raised concerns about the underrepresentation of women in Kenyan politics.

In a country where women make up only a small percentage of elected officials, Chege’s removal from her position sends a troubling message about the value of women’s contributions to the political process. Many believe that Chege was shortchanged by a system that still struggles to recognize and reward the talents and achievements of women in politics.

In response to her removal, Chege has vowed to continue serving her constituents and fighting for the causes she believes in. She has also called for greater representation of women in Kenyan politics, saying that women’s voices and perspectives are essential for building a better future for all Kenyans.
Overall, the removal of Sabina Chege from her position as Chairperson of the National Assembly’s Committee on Health raises important questions about gender bias in Kenyan politics and the need for greater representation of women in all levels of government. Chege’s supporters and colleagues will undoubtedly continue to speak out on her behalf, and her example may inspire other women to step up and fight for their place in the political arena.
