How to pay for using the Nairobi Expressway
According to Moja Expressway Company that has been mandated to operate and maintain the expressway for 27 years before handing it over to the GoK, there are three ways to pay when using the Nairobi Expressway:
Pay directly with cash
Pick a voucher when you drive into the toll station entry point, and then use it pay with cash at your exit point
Pay with the MTC Card (Manual Toll Collection)
With the tap-and-go payment card, motorists will swipe the MTC at the toll stations and fees will be deducted. For that to happen, the card must be loaded with cash first.
ETC Method (Electronic Toll Card)
This is a point-based system where motorists are required to install a wireless On-board Unit (OBU) on their windscreen. This will allow for infrared scanning by the cameras when the vehicles approach the toll gate and will automatically open the gate for the cars to pass through.
