HOW to buy KPLC Tokens from 1st September 2022
If you bank with one of the financial institutions in Kenya, you most definitely received a SMS from them stating that they have discontinued the purchase of KPLC-Prepaid tokens through their banking apps.
This came about as the State-owned power utility issued a directive locking out banks and third-party vendors from selling the prepaid tokens due to increased cases of billing fraud and complaints by customers on delays of receiving the tokens purchased.
“Dear Customer, Effective Thursday 1 September 2022, prepaid tokens will ONLY be bought through M-PESA paybill 888880, USSD code *977#, or KPLC banking halls. No other-party agent is authorised to sell prepaid tokens on behalf of KPLC. The company will therefore not take liability for purchases made through any other platform…” Kenya Power said in a notice.
This is not the first time KPLC has stopped third parties from selling tokens. A similar ban was made in 2019 after a rise in the number of reported cases of fraudulent deals by rogue Kenya Power Staff who allegedly “hacked” their own system and generated genuine tokens which they sold through third-party vendors.
